Flower Sun Catcher

Flower Sun Catcher

Flower Sun Catcher

The flower sun catcher is a lovely arts and crafts activity to say hello to summertime and celebrate the summer solstice!

The summer solstice marks midsummer and the longest day of the year. The word solstice comes from the Latin word ‘solstitium’ meaning ‘sun standing still’. At this point, the sun stops before changing direction.

The flower sun catcher looks wonderful hanging up in a window, doorway or as a summer party decoration!

  • Trace the circle template onto clear contact paper twice and cut them both out.
2 images showing backing paper peeled off a circle of contact paper and flowers arranged on the sticky side of the contact paper.
  • Peel the paper off one of your contact paper circles and place it sticky side up.

  • Once you've finished decorating, peel the paper off the remaining contact paper circle and place it over the flowers sticky side down. Press the contact paper as firmly as you can over the flowers to seal them. This will make them last longer and keep everything in place.
  • Put glue on the back of both of the card sun catcher shapes.
  • Stick the contact paper circles to one of the shapes.
  • Place the remaining shape on top right side up as shown.

  • Punch a hole in the top of the sun catcher.
  • Thread the ribbon or string through the hole and tie it to create a hanging loop.
