As we stay indoors and adapt to a new way of living, I am in awe of, and grateful for, the wealth of online activities and entertainment on offer from authors, illustrators, musicians, theatres and museums, to name but a few!
I’ve watched classes on drawing and tuned in to storytimes with authors. I’ve listened to wonderful live zoom musical and dance performances.
As well as the above, I’ve found myself focussing on, benefitting from, and feeling a sense of achievement in doing activities I previously told myself I didn’t have time for. For instance, tackling unopened jigsaw puzzles, planting out unused packets of seeds, completing half finished craft projects, catching up with friends and family and sitting down to the mountain of wonderful but unread books on my to read list.
I always intended to do this but somehow ‘everyday life got in the way’. I’m hoping that when life resumes to some sort of normality, I will have learned important lessons for myself and my children on what we should prioritise and make time for. I must keep reminding myself and them of this!
I’ve found more than ever, reading is a comforting distraction, helping me escape to different times, places and people. With this in mind, I’ve created a free printable page of bookmarks for you to download, colour in, cut out, and use. As mentioned in a previous blog, we have been advised to include time for our children to ‘learn, play and relax’. Being creative and reading covers all three! There are four bookmarks featuring different animals – wolf, bear, owl and cat. What colours will you choose?
Have fun colouring in these bookmarks and using them in your favourite books.
I am working on more activities to share over the coming weeks.
Stay safe, keep well and happy reading.
