Egg Box Spiders

Egg Box Spiders

These egg box spiders make great Hallowe'en decorations. Hang them up around a room or display them on a window sill or as table decor to create a fabulously spooky atmosphere!

You’ll also find a wonderful selection of Hallowe'en dressing up costumes in the shop which are perfect for your Hallowe'en party!

You will need:

  • egg box
  • black paint and paintbrush
  • scissors
  • push pin
  • pencil
  • thread (optional)
  • black pipe cleaners - you'll need 2 per spider
  • wiggle eyes
  • glue

How to make:

2 images showing egg box cut into egg cup shapes and painted black.
  • Cut out the egg cup shapes from the egg box as shown above. Neaten the edges.
  • Paint both the outside and inside of the egg cup shapes black. Leave to dry.
Hands making holes in the painted egg cup shapes with a pushpin and pencil.
  • Using a push pin or something similar, make 4 holes along 1 side of the lower edge and another 4 holes on the other side. These will be for the pipe cleaner legs.
  • Carefully widen the holes a little bit with a pencil to make it easier to push the pipe cleaners through.
2 images showing holes being made in the top of the egg cup shape and threaded with a hanging loop.
  • If you want to hang your egg box spiders up then make 2 small holes with a push pin in the top of the spider.
  • Thread a length of thread through the holes and tie the ends together to form a hanging loop.
2 images showing pipe cleaners cut in half and the pipe cleaners pushed through the holes made in the egg box shape for the spider's legs.
  • Cut your pipe cleaners in half to create 4 shorter lengths.
  • Push each pipe cleaner length through one hole on the spider and out through the matching hole on the other side. Repeat for the other 3 legs.
2 images showing the pipe cleaners being bent into the shape of spider legs and googly eyes being stuck on the egg box spider.
  • Now bend the pipe cleaners so they look spider-like. I bent each pipe cleaner leg in the middle and then made a little bend at each end to create the foot.
  • Glue on 2 wiggle eyes.
