Magical Toadstool Nightlights

Magical Toadstool Nightlights

Magical Toadstool Nightlights

These gorgeous little magical toadstool nightlights are great as party decorations, small world play and make delightful nightlights for the nursery, child's bedroom and the classroom.

You will need:

  • LED Tea Lights
  • cardboard tube, eg a crisp or drinking chocolate container
  • cardboard, eg a cereal box
  • white and red paint and paintbrush
  • green and white paper
  • pencil
  • glue
  • scissors or small craft knife
  • buttons, sequins, stickers to decorate

How to make:

2 images showing a cardboard tube cut in half with a craft knife and a rectangle shape cut out of the tube along one edge.
  • Carefully cut your cardboard tube into 8cm sections. (An adult will need to do this.) This tube will become the toadstool stalk.
  • Cut out a rectangle measuring about 3.5cm x 3cm along one edge (Again, an adult will need to do this). This rectangle will become the window.

  • Paint the stalk white and leave to dry. You may need a second coat if the first hasn't completely covered everything.
  • To make the grass, cut some 3cm-wide strips of green paper. Make some triangular cuts along one side to look like blades of grass.
2 images showing the magical toadstool nightlight decorated with the green grass strip and paper flowers and a hand drawing around a saucer with a pencil.
  • Glue the green grass strip around the bottom of the white 'stalk' and decorate with with sequins, buttons, stickers etc.
  • For the roof, draw around a circular object eg a saucer or small plate, on to a piece of card.

  • Cut out the circle and paint it red. Leave to dry.
2 images showing scissors cutting a straight line to the centre of the circle and the straight edges glued and overlapped to form a cone for the roof of the magical toadstool nightlight.
  • Draw a straight line from the centre of the circle to the outside edge and cut along the line.
  • Put some glue along one edge of the slit, overlap the edges to form a cone shape and press in place. I used a clothes peg to hold it in place whilst the glue dried. Leave to dry fully.
2 images showing circles cut out of white paper and stuck on to the red-painted roof.
  • Cut out some circles from white paper and glue them on the roof.
2 images showing the roof attached to the toadstool stalk and a led nightlight lit up inside the completed magical toadstool nightlight.
  • Glue the roof to the top of the toadstool stalk and leave to dry.
  • Pop an LED tealight inside your magical toadstool nightlights.
2 children wearing the mob cap and cape and troll costume, sitting at a table in front of a fabrick forest backdrop and holding the magical toadstool nightlights.
