This paper plate spring garland celebrates the arrival of spring, with its bright and cheerful colours.
This activity is great for using recycling materials and is simple to make. You can cover the entire paper plate with flowers as shown here or just make a few flowers and arrange them at the bottom. Have fun choosing your own colours too!
It's perfect for Eastertime as well as a lovely decoration for spring birthday parties.
You will need:
- paper plate
- scissors
- egg box
- glue
- paint and paintbrush
- holepunch
- decorative bits eg buttons/sequins (optional)
- 40cm-length ribbon
How to make:
- Cut out some flower shapes from the egg box - you can cut different shapes out to create different flowers, such as daffodils and crocus as shown. I created daffodils by cutting out 2 egg box shapes (the parts which hold the eggs in place) and making their edges pointed, as well as cutting off the top of the tall parts of the centre of the egg box which you can see at the top of the left image. This makes the trumpet part of the daffodil. I created rounded petal shapes for the crocus.
- Cut out some leaf shapes from the egg box lid.
- Paint the flowers and leaves and leave them to dry. Don't worry about painting the underside of the flowers or leaves. It won't show and the glue sticks better to unpainted cardboard.
- You can decorate the flower centres with buttons or sequins or paint a different colour - or just keep them painted one colour if you prefer!
- Cut out the middle of the paper plate as shown. This will become the garland for the flowers and leaves to go on.
- Paint the plate and leave to dry.
- Arrange the flowers and leaves around the plate.
- Glue them in place and allow the glue to dry.
- Punch a hole at the top of the paper plate.
- Thread the ribbon through and tie a knot to form a hanging loop.
Now, hang up your paper plate spring garland!
