Healthy No Bake Apple Donuts

These healthy no bake apple donuts make snack time lots of fun and are quick and easy to prepare. In fact, children will love creating their own donuts and choosing their toppings to decorate these delicious apple slices!

I used a cream cheese sweetened with honey but you could use other spreads. Peanut butter and chocolate spread, for example, also work well. Try granola, fresh and dried fruit and sprinkles for toppings and create a different apple donut every time.

Before you start the recipe, here's a farmyard-themed bookmark to download and print out which children can colour in whilst they enjoy their donuts!

FARMYARD BOOKMARK TO COLOUR IN

Ingredients: (makes about 16 donuts)

4 eating apples
225g cream cheese
2 teaspoons honey
¼ teaspoon cinnamon

To decorate:

fresh fruit, such as small pieces of strawberry and blueberries
dried fruit, such as raisins and cranberries
sprinkles

Method:

Wash the apples.
Put the apples on their sides. Carefully cut off the top and bottom of the apples and then cut them vertically into slices about 1.5cm thick. You could slice them a bit thinner if you prefer. I managed 4 slices per apple.

Using an apple corer or knife, carefully remove the core and pips from the apples. This will make them look like donuts too!
Gently pat the apple slices dry with a piece of kitchen roll to remove excess moisture. This will help the cream cheese topping stick to the apples. If you don't dry them, you will find that the topping 'slides' off.

Put the cream cheese, honey and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
Whisk everything together till well combined.

Use a knife to carefully spread the cream cheese topping onto the apples.
Decorate with fresh and/or dried fruit and sprinkles.
